The Importance of Anti-Oxidants in MelanSol®

You've no doubt heard the word anti-oxidant bantered about in the marketing slogans of the most highly advertised lotions and creams. Do you know what they are and the vital role they play in protecting your skin? Let me give you a quick primer.  It may be slightly techincal, however, knowledge is the key to making sound choices.

When you expose yourself to the sun, UV rays cause free radicals (rogue molecules also referred to as oxidants) to form on your skin. These free radicals slowly cause your skin to oxidize the way a freshly cut apple oxidizes after it is exposed to air. The damage caused by this oxidation is irreversible and cummulative over your lifetime and reveals itself later in life as leathery skin, wrinkles, sun spots and possibly even skin cancer.

Anti-oxidants are important because they can prevent free radicals from damaging your skin. Your body has vitamin E and melanin to naturally defend itself against free radicals up to a certain point. When you spend a long time in the sun, these defenses can become overwhelmed (oxidative stress). Your body signals this stressful condition when your skin turns pinkish or red- a warning which is too often ignored.

MelanSol® achieves the highest level of skin protection by combining strong topical anti-oxidants with reflective UV filters. It filters a large percentage (95%) of UV rays so you can stay out longer. The strong topical anti-oxidants prevent free radical UV damage by helping your skin maintain its delicate balance between oxidants and anti-oxidants.

The ability to maintain this oxidative balance is what separates MelanSol® from just about evey other sunscreen lotion available today. Bio-Melanin is the exclusive super anti-oxidant that makes MelanSol® sunscreen so protective. Bio-Melanin is extracted from the fruit of the date palm- a fruit uses its Bio-Melanin to protect itself from extreme levels of solar radiation.

Up to now, the anti-oxidants of choice in sunscreen have included green tea and vitamin E. The problem is these two anti-oxidants are spent after capturing 2 to 10 free radicals per molecule-with no ability to actually terminate them. Bio-Melanin is a super anti-oxidant with the ability to capture and terminate over 1000 free radicals per molecule. Bio-Melanin also has the ability to regenerate green tea and vitamin E molecules so they can find even more free radicals. We include green tea and vitamin E in our formula because of this synergistic effect.

At the end of the day, it all boils down to what really protects your skin the best. Our clients swear by the anti-oxidant protection in MelanSol®. You will have to cme to this conclusion for yourself.
